Upholding Professional Standards in Information Technology

The Institute of Certified IT Professionals (ICITP®) is committed to promoting the highest standards of integrity, professionalism, and ethical conduct in the practice of information technology. All members, candidates, and certified professionals are expected to adhere to this Code of Ethics as a foundation for responsible and trustworthy IT practice.

This Code reflects our commitment to building a community of IT professionals who act with accountability, respect, and competence in all professional engagements.

Core Principles

Integrity

IT professionals must act with honesty, fairness, and transparency in all professional activities. They must avoid conflicts of interest and ensure that their actions do not compromise trust or professional reputation.

Professional Competence

Members are expected to maintain and continuously develop their technical knowledge and skills. They must perform their duties with diligence, accuracy, and in accordance with recognized industry standards.

Confidentiality and Data Protection

IT professionals must respect the confidentiality of information acquired during their work. They must safeguard sensitive data and ensure compliance with applicable data privacy laws and organizational policies.

Responsibility and Accountability

Members must take responsibility for their actions and decisions. They are expected to exercise sound judgment, minimize risks, and ensure that their work does not negatively impact individuals, organizations, or society.

Professional Conduct

IT professionals must behave in a manner that upholds the reputation of the profession. This includes demonstrating respect, avoiding unethical practices, and complying with applicable laws, regulations, and organizational policies.

Commitment to Ethical Practice

Members are expected to promote ethical standards in all areas of IT practice, including system development, data management, cybersecurity, and digital operations. They should actively contribute to a culture of ethical awareness and responsibility.

Compliance with the Code

All ICITP® members and certified professionals are required to adhere to this Code of Ethics. Any breach of these principles may result in disciplinary action, including review of certification status, in accordance with ICITP® policies.
